Roman Holiday.

Rome, the city of love, or is that Paris? Whatever it may be, I love this place. It reminds of the Audrey Hepburn classic, ‘Roman Holiday’, from the amazing buildings and the food, the friendly people- who often ask for a dance in the middle of the street and the amazing tourist sights. There is everything for everyone, no matter your preference. I spent a week in Rome and it soon became one of my top traveling destinations and one I will surely re-visit in the future.

I spent my holiday residing at the Hotel Pace Helvezia, it was a lovely, modest hotel, with exquisite décor. The staff members here were very pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast the hotel offered was amazing. I feasted my eyes on a breakfast buffet every morning; the range of food was unbelievable and I was often spoilt for choice. My personal favourites was the sweet section, cakes and pastries and chocolate filled croissants- this resulted in me going back to fill my plate, for thirds, fourths… at times fifths.

Rome is famous for its sights and it promotes a lot of history, one of the many reasons for my visit. From the classic Coliseum, to the Vatican City, the Spanish Steps and the Fontana di Trevi- I made at least three wishes and I am yet waiting for them to take action… anytime now. I also visited the hand of truth- as seen in the ‘Roman Holiday’, this topped my whole sight seeing experiences as I visited virtually all of them and what’s better? I did all this on foot, no transpiration was needed.

Shopping in Rome is wonderful, as there is a range of versatile shops, all specialising in something unique for everyone. There are many stores here which stock the most amazing fashion pieces I have seen, from jewellery, to genuine leather goods, bags and shoes galore. Just like any other major city, there are luxury branded stores, smaller boutiques and excellent tourist stores. Zara is one of my favourite high street stores and I was glad to find there were a few located around the city, which were within walking distance.

Food glorious food… this is something the romans know well. They know their food and how it should taste. If you are a fan of the Italian cuisine, well let me tell you, you are in luck. The finest stone baked pizza, smothered in mozzarella cheese and basil, fresh pasta with rich tomato sauce and for dessert, the perfect gelato to cool everything. As Rome attracts many tourists, I found there were restaurants and ice cream parlours literally at every corner, so travelling a mile for your food won’t be a problem.

To summarise my ‘Roman Holiday’ experience, it was magnificent, educational and fun. If you are contemplating a visit to Rome, I strongly recommend it!

The world is your oyster, so go explore. I hope you all enjoy your week.
